From Sports Radio to Shaft Fitting: A Lifelong Passion for Golf

For the owner of CC Club Shop, golf isn’t just a profession; it’s an obsession that’s been going strong for over 35 years.

After a successful career in sports radio, his return to the game in 2022 was a full-circle moment. “I’ve always been obsessed with the golf industry,” he said. “Getting back into it after years away felt natural, like coming home.”

His early experience working with Callaway as a club fitting assistant introduced him to the art of connecting players with the right equipment. “That’s where I learned the importance of people skills, not just the tech side, but helping golfers find what truly works for them.”

It wasn’t long before he found Fujikura. After testing a VENTUS Black with VeloCore driver shaft in 2022, he was hooked. “That first demo changed everything for me, the feel, the performance, the control. I’ve been a Fujikura believer ever since.”

Focusing on Feel

Ask any golfer at CC Club Shop what sets their fittings apart, and the answer is clear, feel matters most.

“Many golfers come in thinking their swing speed or old habits dictate their shaft choice,” he explains. “But feel, paired with the right performance metrics, tells the real story. Our goal is always to match the player’s feel with the perfect numbers.”

A Fitting Story That Stuck

One standout fitting session involved a former professional baseball player in his early 60s, someone who had never been fitted and was still gaming his 2005 irons.

“He told me, ‘I just need new irons,’ but was convinced graphite was for old men,” the fitter laughed. “I asked him to trust me and handed him an AXIOM 75-R. He was used to steel iron shafts, so he immediately noticed how much lighter it felt.”

“First swing, 7-iron flies 147 yards. He looked at me in disbelief. After six shots, every ball was on the green. He was sold. Now, he’s back to loving golf again.”

A Moment to Remember

Long before launch monitors and fitting bays, there was one unforgettable swing that started it all.

“I was a sophomore in high school, hitting balls in my buddy’s backyard,” he recalled. “He bet me I couldn’t hit one over the barn. I grabbed an old persimmon driver, took a swing, and absolutely smoked it right over. That feeling… that’s when I was hooked for life.”
